Eva Bowman – Consultant for English Language Program

Eva Bowman has extensive experience leading and administering one of the oldest and largest university English language programs in the United States. As the academic and administrative director, she successfully led the Intensive English Language Institute (IELI), at the University of North Texas for many decades.  In this role, she hired and trained a large team of faculty and administrators, and conducted the institute’s assessment and performance evaluation of faculty. Eva also served as a faculty member at Virginia Tech University and the University of North Texas, and taught diverse level English language courses, and mentored junior ESL faculty and international teaching assistants.

Eva has advanced expertise in developing textbooks and transforming the curriculum, catering to the needs of students who aspire to gain English language proficiency. Some textbooks developed by her were also adopted by other ESL centers in the US and Turkey.  She also developed one of the most student-service oriented English language institutes, where student’s language learning was enhanced by a creative learning climate and diverse programming. Leading the 50 faculty and coordinators ‘team, Eva set the standard of policies, assessment, program development, curriculum enhancement, and student services for the English language programs in the United States. She was sought by many institutions in the United States and abroad to offer consultancy for the establishment and evaluation of their English language programs. In 2010, Eva established an English Language Program at a Turkish university. As the leader of this program, Eva served as the on-site co-director, hired and trained 50 Turkish teachers and 30 American ESL instructors from the US and developed customized curriculum, student testing, teachers’ evaluation and program assessment.

Eva visited many countries as a consultant, including Poland and Turkey. Due to her cultural competency and advanced collaborative skills, she established successful partnerships with the leaders of higher education in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Eva’s professional ventures include serving as a Fulbright scholar in teacher training in Poland in 1992, and to the CEA as a Site Reviewer for multiple years. She regularly presented interactive sessions at the NAFSA and TESOL conferences and shared her expertise with colleagues in the field of International Education.
