Scott Pierson – Consultant for International Partnerships and Projects

Professional Experience: Scott Pierson began his career in international education 19 years ago as an ESL instructor in Toyama ken, Japan, where he was employed for two years on the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program.  During the past three years, he has been serving the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Wisconsin’s Comprehensive Polytechnic University, as Director of the Office of International Education – the University’s Senior International Officer (SIO).  In this role, he leads the University’s comprehensive internationalization efforts by aligning and integrating policies, programs and initiatives aimed at opening minds and cultivating global competencies through international exchange and collaboration.  The three units under his supervision are International Student & Scholar Services, Study Abroad, and the English as a Second Language Institute (ESLI).  He is responsible for financial oversight of multiple self-supporting (revenue-generating) operational budgets.  Additionally, he manages the University’s agent-commissioned relationships as well as dual-degree international student recruitment efforts. 

Scott has served in senior-level leadership positions as Director for International Partnerships at Towson University, Assistant Director for the Office of International Services at Johns Hopkins University, and Associate Director of Towson University’s International Student & Scholar Services.  He has significant experience overseeing International Memorandum of Understanding (IMOU); applying for and attaining international grants; developing and implementing short-term revenue-generating student and professional training programs; developing institutional recruitment policy; and reengineering F and J student and scholar advisement and programming at private and public, decentralized and centralized, large and small, research and applied-focused institutions of higher education. 

Scott has experience planning and executing over 50 short-term professional training programs in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, education, and English language to bureaucrats, higher education professions, and students.

Education: Master of Business Administration (MBA) in International Business degree from the University of Baltimore and Towson University, Maryland.  Bachelor of Arts degree in Rhetoric and Communication Studies from the University of Richmond, Virginia.
